Joe Rogan criticizes Olympics Last Supper parody

Joe Rogan has voiced his discontent with the modern Olympics, labelling them a "giant scam." 

Rogan highlighted the disparity between the immense revenue generated and the lack of financial compensation for the athletes, stating, "None of it’s going to the athletes; it is a giant scam."

Rogan also criticised the organisers for extravagant ceremonies, referencing the recent controversial Last Supper parody featuring drag queens. "We got a bunch of drag queens in the Last Supper, and nobody understands it because it’s not made by athletes," he said. Rogan argued that the focus should be on the athletes and their achievements rather than theatrical performances.

Discussing the financial implications, Rogan pointed out the substantial investments in infrastructure in host countries like Brazil, which often leave local communities questioning the allocation of resources. "Why didn’t you just spend it on the community?" he questioned. Rogan noted, "The Olympics make billions and billions of money in television revenue and advertising revenue, and they don’t give any of it to the athletes."

Rogan further commented on the historical evolution of the Olympics, noting that they were once purely about national pride and athletic excellence. "At one point in time, the Olympics was just about the best athletes in the world competing against other best athletes in the world. It was for national pride," he explained. He lamented that the event has now become a major business, with athletes receiving little benefit from the billions in revenue.

The podcaster concluded by urging for a more athlete-focused approach, emphasising the need for fair compensation and less emphasis on extravagant ceremonies. "It should be more athlete-focused for sure and not so much like a show," he affirmed.
