Chrissy Teigen Reveals Son Miles, 6, Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes
Chrissy Teigen has shared a heartfelt update about her son, Miles, revealing that he has been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. The model and cookbook author took to Instagram to discuss the diagnosis and thank her followers for their support.
In a detailed Instagram post, Teigen explained that many of her followers had noticed the continuous glucose monitor on Miles’ arm in a recent photo she shared. "A lot of you noticed something a little special about a photo I posted a few days ago — Luna, Miles, and I celebrating Simone and Team USA," Teigen wrote. She expressed gratitude for the "beautiful and incredible" messages of support she received from her followers.
Teigen described how Miles' diagnosis came about. "A couple of weeks ago, our Miles was sick in the hospital with a severe case of shigella, an intestinal infection caused by bacteria," she explained. "The doctors noticed something unusual in his blood tests, which eventually led to his Type 1 Diabetes diagnosis."
She noted that Miles is currently in the "honeymoon period" of Type 1 Diabetes, a phase where the body's insulin production may still be somewhat functional but will eventually diminish. "Last night we gave him his first shot of insulin and here we go!" Teigen wrote. "It’s a different, new world for us, and we are certainly learning so much on the fly."
Teigen also highlighted the importance of community support, noting how the kindness from her followers has been a source of comfort. She thanked everyone for their encouragement, which has helped Miles feel less alone. Teigen and her husband, John Legend, 45, have been using the book Year One with Type One to assist Miles in managing his condition.
The diagnosis was first hinted at when Teigen shared a photo on July 28, showing Miles at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where his glucose monitor was visible.
Teigen concluded her post with a simple but heartfelt message: "love u guys!!!!"
