Prince Harry receives support in restoring his UK police protection

A security expert calls for a review of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's UK police protection removal.

Prince Harry has been fighting for four years to overturn the 2020 decision to strip his family of police protection in the UK. 

The decision, made when he stepped down as a working royal, left him, Meghan Markle, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, without round-the-clock security.

Private security expert Alex Bomberg, chief executive of Intelligent Protection International, has called for the decision to be reviewed. Speaking to Newsweek, Bomberg said, "I'm an advocate for him getting police protection. I think it's something that should be reviewed." He argued that although Harry is no longer a working royal, he was "born into the family," and the threat to his safety "doesn't really go away."

A UK government spokesperson stated, "The UK's protective security system is rigorous and proportionate," but declined to provide details on specific security arrangements. Despite a High Court judge ruling in February that the decision was fair, Harry has been granted permission to appeal, arguing that the UK is not safe for his family without police protection.
