South Africa and Afghanistan are set to play their first-ever bilateral series, consisting of three ODIs in Sharjah from September 18 to 22.

Announced by Cricket South Africa (CSA) and hosted by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), this series was not originally part of the Future Tours Programme (FTP).

The series will conclude just five days before South Africa's fixtures against Ireland in Abu Dhabi, which include two T20Is and three ODIs starting September 27.

Prior to this, South Africa will play two Tests and three T20Is against the West Indies in the Caribbean, beginning on August 7.

For Afghanistan, this series is a significant opportunity to test their skills against a Test-playing nation, following their Test match against New Zealand in Greater Noida, India, from September 9 to 13.
