Karachi experienced intermittent monsoon rains from late Monday night through Tuesday, bringing a pleasant change to the city's weather.

The showers, accompanied by lightning and thunder, affected almost all parts of the metropolis, with Gadap, Orangi Town, Surjani Town, and North Karachi receiving the heaviest rainfall.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Gadap recorded 42.4mm of rain, while Orangi Town, Surjani Town, and North Karachi saw 29.4mm, 24.1mm, and 24mm of rainfall respectively.

Other affected areas included II Chundrigar Road, Saddar, Shahrea Faisal, Old City Area, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Johar, Tariq Road, Malir, Korangi, Quaidabad, and Scheme 33.

The heavy rains caused flooding on streets and some main roads, disrupting traffic. Karachi Traffic Police advised citizens to take precautions while driving and avoid unnecessary travel during the downpour.

Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah directed immediate arrangements for the drainage of rainwater in all cities and instructed government officers and relevant staff to remain in the field until the water is fully drained. He also urged Karachi Traffic Police to take steps to prevent traffic disruptions.

The PMD forecast indicates that the current low-pressure system may bring moderate to heavy showers to Karachi until Thursday, August 1.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) had earlier issued an advisory, warning of potential urban flooding in Karachi and other cities due to monsoon currents from the Bay of Bengal expected to last until August 3.

As monsoon rains continue across various parts of the country, the NDMA has highlighted the risk of urban flooding, urging citizens to stay alert.
