Marvel Studios’ Phase 6 is officially underway, with Pedro Pascal and the new cast of The Fantastic Four taking center stage at San Diego Comic-Con on July 27.

The upcoming film, set for release on July 25, 2025, features Pascal as Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm (Invisible Woman), Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm (the Thing), and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm (the Human Torch).

During the event in Hall H of the San Diego Convention Center, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige introduced director Matt Shakman.

Although the cast was engaged in preparations for filming starting next week, they made a surprise appearance after a sizzle reel showcased their roles. The audience’s reaction was overwhelmingly positive.

Pedro Pascal, who has known Shakman for 25 years, shared his enthusiasm for joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), noting, "New family."

Vanessa Kirby and Joseph Quinn, the only British members of the cast, discussed their on-set camaraderie, with Kirby stating, "I don’t think I’ve laughed so much in a rehearsal period before." Kirby also expressed hopes of translating the joy from the comics to the film.

Ebon Moss-Bachrach revealed that Mark Ruffalo had reached out to offer advice on motion capture technology, which Moss-Bachrach had not used before. “I got a very nice text from Mark Ruffalo," he said.

Following their stage appearance, Pascal and Kirby spoke with PEOPLE about their MCU journey, mentioning they had yet to receive advice from previous Marvel stars but were eager to reconnect with Sebastian Stan.

"We’re the newbies," Kirby remarked, with Pascal adding, "We’re the newbies and we’re in the newbie process."

The reboot of The Fantastic Four will follow the original 1961 comics by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee and will be preceded by Marvel films Captain America: Brave New World (Feb. 14, 2025) and Thunderbolts (May 2, 2025). The film will also feature Julia Garner, John Malkovich, Paul Walter Hauser, and Natasha Lyonne.

Previous adaptations of the franchise include the 2015 film starring Michael B. Jordan and a 2005-2007 series with Chris Evans.

Robert Downey Jr. is also set to return to the MCU as Doctor Doom, according to Comic-Con announcements.
