Four of a family killed in ambush near Kharian

Victims were on way for court hearing

GUJRAT:

Four members of a family were killed in an armed attack while going for a court appearance near the village of Ladiyan.

A man, his son, brother and a nephew were shot dead in the incident.

According to local sources, Malik Ataur Rehman Tahir, his son Shehzad, brother Malik Irfan Numberdar and nephew Sufyan Irfan, residents of the Sumerala village in the Kikrali area, were on their way to a court in Kharian for a hearing early in the morning when they were attacked.

At Ladiyan Chowk, men on two motorcycles opened indiscriminate fire on their van from both sides, killing all four victims.

The attackers fled from the scene after the firing.

As soon as the incident was reported, the SHO of Kikrali Police Station, Arshad Dafrana, arrived at the scene.

According to him, the murders were a result of ongoing enmity.

The victims were accused of having killed the son of Farooq Samarala, a resident of the same village, and were on their way to the court for proceedings in the same case when they were murdered.

Meanwhile, the inspector general of Punjab Police asked the DPO of Gujrat for a report on the incident. DPO Mustansar Ata Bajwa, along with SP Riaz Naz, Jalalpur Jattan DSP Shahbaz Hanjra and other SHOs from the area, visited the scene of the attack, formed raiding teams for arresting the murderers and assured the affected family of justice.
