Ralph Lauren faced heavy criticism for Team USA’s outfits at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony on Friday.
The company’s “Chariots of Fire” vibe jacket, paired with jeans, received mixed reviews; some approved, while many on social media indulged in one of America’s favorite non-Olympic sports: critiquing Ralph Lauren’s Olympic attire.
This marks Ralph Lauren’s ninth time dressing the U.S. squad, potentially causing familiarity to breed contempt.
The backlash might stem from the company’s 2021 Olympic designs, but the 2024 outfits didn’t fare much better in the eyes of critics.
Social media users didn’t hold back: "One of Kamala’s campaign promises should be putting Ralph Lauren in jail," wrote one person.
"Down by the river ass fits. Ralph Lauren needs to be stopped man," another commented.
"Dressing our best and brightest like 2003 Jay-Z," quipped another critic.
"Nobody cares if they paying homage to Ralph Lauren. Denim with that sports coat and button up is weak as hell and you don't have to be a fashion expert to have eyes. Bare minimum requirement," another user stated.
