BEIJING:

China announced new measures on Thursday to improve accommodation services for foreign travellers. The circular, issued by the Ministry of Commerce alongside six other government departments, aims to eliminate restrictions on foreign guests at local accommodation establishments.

The new guidelines mandate that local authorities and online booking platforms must not impose qualification requirements that prevent accommodation providers from accepting foreign guests. Furthermore, platforms and accommodation operators are barred from making unlawful claims or advertisements indicating that they do not accept international visitors.

The circular emphasises the need for accommodation operators to streamline the management of registration services for foreign travelers. This includes simplifying the process for collecting necessary information. Additionally, there will be enhancements to payment services for foreign guests, making transactions more convenient.

The Ministry of Commerce and the other involved government departments are committed to guiding local authorities in executing these measures.

The goal is to create a more welcoming environment for international visitors and support China's broader objectives of high-level opening-up and quality development.

China has previously implemented several initiatives to facilitate accommodation for foreign visitors. Past efforts include simplifying visa procedures, enhancing airport and border services, and improving the overall hospitality infrastructure. These measures are part of China's ongoing strategy to boost international tourism and demonstrate its commitment to global engagement.

By addressing these issues, China aims to ensure that foreign travellers experience a seamless and enjoyable stay, further promoting the country as a desirable destination for international tourism.
