A police officer was filmed kicking and stamping on a man's head at Manchester Airport, prompting public outrage and protests, BBC reported.

The incident occurred on Tuesday when firearms officers responded to a fight in Terminal 2. A video, widely shared online, shows the uniformed officer holding a taser over the man, who is face down on the ground, before striking him twice. Other officers can be heard shouting at onlookers to stay back.

According to the media reports, the man being beaten by police officers is British Pakistani.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed they have referred themselves to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC) and removed one officer from operational duties. The incident escalated when three officers were attacked while attempting to arrest a suspect, with one female officer suffering a broken nose. Four men were arrested on suspicion of assault and affray.

Assistant Chief Constable Wasim Chaudhry acknowledged the public's concern, stating the use of such force is highly unusual. A protest outside Rochdale Police Station drew several hundred people, expressing their anger over the incident and demanding an end to police brutality.

Mayor Andy Burnham and National Black Police Association President Andy George described the footage as disturbing and difficult to watch. Home Office Minister Dame Diana Johnson has requested a full update from GMP.

The IOPC will assess GMP's referral to decide on further action. Meanwhile, GMP has pledged to engage with the community to address their concerns and maintain strong partnership links.
