George Clooney expressed his support for Kamala Harris's presidential run, following his contentious op-ed that called for President Biden to withdraw from the upcoming election.

“President Biden has shown what true leadership is. He’s saving democracy once again,” the Oscar winner said in a statement to CNN Tuesday.

“We’re all so excited to do whatever we can to support Vice President Harris in her historic quest.”

Clooney’s endorsement comes less than two weeks after he authored an op-ed for the New York Times, urging his "close friend" Biden, 81, to exit the race for re-election and allow a new candidate to challenge former President Donald Trump in November.

The “Ocean’s Eleven” actor, who met Biden at a June 15 fundraiser in Los Angeles and observed his flawed debate performance against Trump on June 27, stated that the current president was “not the Joe ‘big f–king deal’ Biden of 2010.”

“He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate,” Clooney, 63, wrote on July 10, seemingly referring to Biden’s cognitive decline due to his age.

“We are not going to win in November with this president. On top of that, we won’t win the House, and we’re going to lose the Senate,” he added.

Eleven days after Clooney's op-ed, Biden announced his withdrawal from the presidential race.

“While it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” the president wrote in a letter posted on X Sunday.
