Official footage has been released of a 36-year-old Black woman, Sonya Massey, who was fatally shot by a white police officer, prompting calls for justice.
The Sangamon County Sheriff's office released 36 minutes of bodycam footage showing the events that led to Deputy Sean P. Grayson fatally shooting Massey inside her home in Springfield, Illinois.
The incident occurred on July 6 when Grayson and another deputy responded to Massey’s 911 call about a possible intruder. The bodycam video captures Grayson yelling at Massey to move a pot of boiling water from the stove to the sink. Grayson then threatens her, shouting, "drop the f***ing pot," before firing three shots, including a fatal shot to her head.
