Imran, Bushra’s remand extended

Couple produced before accountability court

RAWALPINDI:

An accountability court of Islamabad on Monday extended the physical remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi by seven days in the new Toshakhana reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

The couple was produced before Accountability Judge Muhammad Ali Waraich during a hearing inside the Adiala Jail on the completion of the initial eight-day remand. Reference Investigation Officer Mohsin Haroon and Barrister Umair Majeed appeared on behalf of NAB and sought 14-day remand.

Chaudhry Zaheer Abbas and Salman Safdar appeared in the court on behalf of the PTI founder and Bibi. The court extended the physical remand of the accused for another seven days and directed the authorities to present them in the court on July 29.

Meanwhile, the counsels for Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi completed cross-examination of two prosecution witnesses—Pervez Khattak and Zubaida Jalal—in the £190 million corruption case.

Khattak and Zubaida—both former members in Imran Khan’s cabinet—appeared in the court of Islamabad Accountability Court-1 Judge Muhammad Ali Warraich during proceedings that took place inside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail.

Imran and Bushra who are detained at the prison facility were also present in the courtroom.

Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi and Amjad Pervaiz appeared in court on behalf of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), the prosecution in the case.

Chaudhry Zaheer Abbas represented the PTI founder, while Advocate Salman Safdar appeared for Bushra Bibi. During the proceedings, Khattak read his statement again.
