Former President Donald Trump wasted no time in responding to Joe Biden's announcement that he would not seek re-election in the upcoming presidential race. Within minutes of Biden's decision going public on Sunday, July 21, Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to deliver a scathing critique.

In a characteristic tweet, Trump  lambasted his predecessor, labeling him as "Crooked Joe Biden," and asserting that Biden was never fit to lead the nation. Trump's tweet read, "Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve - And never was! He only attained the position of President by lies, Fake News, and not leaving his Basement."

Trump continued his criticism by alleging that those surrounding Biden, including his doctor and the media, were aware of his purported incapacity to hold office. He concluded the post with a promise to undo what he termed as the damage caused by Biden's presidency, proclaiming, "MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

Biden  who officially declared his candidacy for re-election in April 2023, cited the need to focus solely on his presidential duties as his reason for withdrawing from the race. In his statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Biden expressed pride in his administration's achievements, highlighting economic growth, healthcare reforms, and advancements in climate legislation among his administration's accomplishments.

Biden's decision to step aside follows mounting concerns over his age and performance, exacerbated by a challenging debate against Trump earlier in the campaign season. During the debate, Biden faced criticism for his responses to Trump's accusations and struggled to articulate his administration's achievements effectively.

In his statement, Biden indicated his full support for Vice President Kamala Harris to lead the Democratic ticket in the upcoming election, calling for party unity to defeat Trump. He pledged to address the nation in greater detail later in the week about his decision.

Trump's swift and sharp response underscores the contentious atmosphere surrounding the 2024 presidential race, setting the stage for a heated campaign between Harris and Trump in the months ahead.
