Bilawal to chair party huddle on PTI ban move
The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is gearing up for a high-stakes consultative meeting to tackle the issue of banning Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), sources revealed on Saturday.
The meeting will bring together the central and provincial leadership of the PPP. Notably, party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari will preside over the session via video link from abroad.
The meeting agenda includes soliciting opinions from party leaders about the PML-N’s proposal to ban PTI. The consensus reached during this discussion will shape the PPP’s decision to support or oppose the ban.
According to sources, several senior PPP figures are not in favour of throwing PTI out of the game. The party has been vocal about its stance, urging the ruling coalition to play by the democratic rulebook.
The meeting comes on the heels of the PPP’s recent nudge to the PML-N, advising it to take a step back and reassess its review petition in the Supreme Court regarding the reserved seats debacle.
The PPP has expressed dissatisfaction over being excluded from the decision-making process by the PML-N, despite being a key coalition partner.
During the meeting at the Presidency, the PPP hammered home its point that any move to ban PTI must be handled with democratic finesse.
The party continues to distance itself from the government’s inclination to impose a ban on PTI, advocating for a more inclusive and deliberative approach instead.
