Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha opens up about interfaith marriage

Sonakshi stresses that while their faiths differ, the values are fundamentally similar

Bollywood star Sonakshi Sinha has addressed her interfaith marriage to Zaheer Iqbal, which took place on June 23 in a private ceremony attended by close friends and family.

The marriage has faced significant criticism from Hindu extremists in India, who questioned Sonakshi's decision and spread rumours that she might convert to Islam.

In a recent interview, Sonakshi and Zaheer described their union as a “beautiful celebration of love” despite their different religious beliefs.

Sonakshi explained that although their faiths differ, they are fundamentally similar in values.

The couple emphasised that their parents taught them to be good individuals and to believe in God, irrespective of their religious backgrounds.

The actress revealed that their seven-year relationship never centered on their differing beliefs.

Instead, they have always respected each other’s religions without any disputes or arguments.

She noted that the only criticism they face comes from external sources, while their families have been very supportive and happy about their marriage.
