Nationwide deluge: Torrential rainfall and thunderstorms to hit major cities

Heat and humidity to be interrupted by heavy rain across Pakistan

KARACHI:

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned of severe thunderstorms and intense rainfall impacting the country, including major urban centres such as Islamabad and Karachi.

The forecast predicts downpours and thunderstorms across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, central and southern Punjab, Sindh, and northeastern and southern Balochistan. Northeastern Punjab, the Pothohar region, Islamabad, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan are also expected to face localised storms with lightning.

In Islamabad, a blend of sweltering heat and humidity is set to be interrupted by fierce thunderstorms and heavy rain.

Areas including Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Mardan, Khyber, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Swabi, and Charsadda should brace for torrential rain and potential flooding, accompanied by gusty winds and dramatic weather shifts.

Major cities such as Murree, Galyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Faisalabad, Khushab, Sargodha, Layyah, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, Khanewal, Muzaffargarh, and Kot Addu are in line for thunderstorms with lightning and torrential rain.

In Balochistan, cities including Lasbela, Khuzdar, Awaran, Zhob, Barkhan, Musa, Sherani, Kohlu, Hernai, Sibi, Loralai, Nasirabad, Jhal Magsi, Jafferabad, Quetta, Ziarat, Qalat, and Ketch are set to face powerful winds and heavy rainfall, with some areas potentially experiencing extreme downpours.

Sindh too is preparing for its share, with thunderstorms and heavy rain expected in Sukkur, Kashmore, Khairpur, Larkana, Dadu, Badin, Thatta, Sajawal, Karachi, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mithi, Mirpurkhas, and Sanghar.

Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are also on alert, with forecasts predicting partly cloudy skies, strong winds, and localized storms.

The residents of these areas are urged to stay vigilant and prepare for these intense weather conditions.
