Marvel Studios has officially confirmed that Dafne Keen will reprise her role as Laura/X-23 in the upcoming film Deadpool & Wolverine. The announcement came with the release of the final trailer for the highly anticipated Fox-Marvel collaboration, which is set to hit theaters soon. Keen first portrayed the character in the 2017 film Logan, where she played the clone daughter of Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.
In Deadpool & Wolverine, Keen returns as an older version of Laura. This version of Wolverine, played once again by Hugh Jackman, has never met Laura before, as her reality's Old Man Logan died after sacrificing himself to save her. The film's plot introduces an intriguing dynamic between the characters, exploring new facets of their relationship.
Keen's return to the role has been the subject of speculation since the SAG-AFTRA strikes last summer. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Keen described her reaction to getting the call to reprise her role. "I immediately screamed; I dropped my phone in the bath. I had to put it in rice; it was a whole thing," she said. Reflecting on her initial apprehensions, she added, "I was a bit freaked out; I was like, 'I will have forgotten how to play her. She’s not in me anymore.'"
Despite her worries, Keen quickly found her footing. "We went straight into this pretty intense scene. I know I was freaking out," she recalled. "As soon as they said, ‘Rolling!’ I really felt like we were back doing Logan. It was like eight years hadn’t passed." Keen also humorously blamed actor Andrew Garfield for her secrecy during press tours, saying, "All the inspo comes from Andrew Garfield. He is the master at this."
