Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha, who recently married her Muslim friend Zaheer Iqbal, revealed that she was extremely nervous about telling her father, Shatrughan Sinha, about her desire to marry Zaheer.
In a recent interview, Sonakshi and her husband Zaheer shared how they managed to convince the veteran actor to accept their marriage.
"I was very anxious about telling my father about Zaheer," Sonakshi said. "I didn't know how to express my wish. I feared he would get very angry."
The actress explained that she tried to calm herself before approaching her father. "I went to him and asked, 'Aren't you worried about my marriage? Because you never talked about it.'"
In response, her father said he had asked her mother to discuss Sonakshi's wishes regarding marriage.
Sonakshi then told her father, "Papa, there is a boy named Zaheer in my life." To this, he replied, "Yes, I read about it in the media. You both are grown up now and can make your own decisions."
Her father's humorous reaction, "When the bride and groom are willing, what can the Qazi do?" put her at ease.
Sonakshi expressed that her father's response made her very happy and relieved. "That day, I felt I had truly gained Zaheer."
Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal had been dating for the past seven years and tied the knot on June 23 in the presence of family and close friends.
