City tops list of population growth districts in Sindh

East district on top with 5.4% growth rate

Among the five divisions of Sindh, Karachi tops the list of population growth during 2017 to 2023. Out of the 30 districts of the province, District East, Karachi also outpaced all other districts.

According to the 2023 census conducted under the Federal Bureau of Statistics, population growth rate in Sindh is 2.57 and if this rate is maintained, population of the province will be doubled by 2051.

When reviewing data from five divisions, Karachi shows the highest population increase. Karachi division, comprising 7 districts, experienced a 4.10% growth rate, whereas Hyderabad division saw a 1.6% increase, Larkana division 2.30%, Mirpurkhas division 1.50%, Shaheed Benazirabad division 1.98%, and Sukkur division 1.36%.

Notably, Karachi's East district leads among Sindh's 30 districts with a 5.45% population rise. Central Karachi grew by 4.30%, South Karachi by 4.71%, West Karachi by 4.35%, Keamari district by 2.07%, Korangi district by 3.29%, and Malir district by 3.79%.
