Punjab is set to experience widespread monsoon rains from today until July 20, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) spokesperson.
Severe rainstorms accompanied by strong winds are anticipated across most districts in the province, with heavy rains and thunderstorms expected in southern Punjab between July 17 and 19, he added.
The rains are expected to bring relief from the heat and humidity.
However, there is a risk of flooding in Punjab’s rivers and streams, cautioned Irfan Kathia, Director General of PDMA. He urged city administrations to remain vigilant and complete all necessary preparations in advance.
Kathia warned that the storms could damage electricity poles and solar panels. He emphasized that relevant authorities have been alerted in light of the weather forecast, per the directives of the Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz.
Efforts are being made to ensure the prompt drainage of water from low-lying areas, stated PDMA DG Irfan Ali Kathia, who added that the PDMA control room is monitoring the weather conditions around the clock.
The public is urged to adhere to government instructions to ensure safety during this period.
