Three policemen were seriously injured in a gun attack in Khairpur district on Tuesday. The policemen were going on a motorbike from Mehrabpur to Darya Khan Marri area to perform Muharram security duty when they were attacked, Imam Bux Mithiani, SHO of Akari Chodgi police station, told The Express Tribune.

They were later referred to the Peoples Medical Hospital in Nawabshah. Due to unavailability of ambulances, one of them was shifted in a police mobile van while two others in private cars. The injured cops were posted at Mehrabpur police station and were going on a motorbike to Darya Khan Marri area for security duty.

The injured told the media in the hospital that three young men riding on a motorbike fired gunshots at them and fled. Police launched a manhunt for them. The SHO said that it appeared to be a targeted attack. According to police, some armed muggers, including women, robbed people passing through the same strip of the road some days ago. Those robbers are still at large.
