Govt announces free solar systems for 100,000 families

K-P govt's move aims to alleviate the impact of electricity shortages

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government on Tuesday announced a decision to provide free solar systems to 100,000 families struggling with load-shedding.

KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has directed that solar systems be distributed to impoverished families across the province. Under this initiative, the provincial government will provide a 2 KW solar system to each eligible family, aiming to alleviate the impact of electricity shortages.

Three days earlier, The Punjab government also announced that it would be distributing free solar panels across the province starting on Independence Day, August 14.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced on Saturday that households consuming up to 200 units of electricity per month will receive free solar panels.

Consumers using between 200 and 500 units of electricity per month will get solar panels at only 10% of the cost, with the remaining 90% subsidized by the Punjab government.

CM Maryam highlighted that this initiative aims to reduce electricity bills by 40%, emphasizing her commitment to providing relief to the public.

"These are challenging times, but we stand with the people and will continue to do so," she said.
