Young Sheldon co-creator Chuck Lorre on the state of sitcoms: "F--- 'em"

The Big Bang Theory creator Chuck Lorre has spoken out about the current state of the entertainment industry.

Chuck Lorre, the creator of some of the most beloved sitcoms in recent history, has spoken out about the current state of the entertainment industry and its perceived lack of interest in the sitcom genre.

When asked about the industry's views on sitcoms at the summer 2024 TCA Press Tour, Lorre replied, "F--- 'em," before continuing, "I try and pursue things that I'm excited about that I think are wonderful, that working with people that I love and admire and telling stories that I think are great stories to tell, and the potential of making people laugh is a wonderful thing to do."

Lorre, who has had a long and successful career in television, has created or co-created shows like Cybill, Dharma & Greg, Two and a Half Men, The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, and Mom. He has been dubbed the "King of Sitcoms" due to his impressive track record of creating hit shows.

Despite his success, Lorre says he actively tries to avoid the discourse and trends of the industry, focusing instead on creating shows that he is passionate about. "What the industry perceives of as viable is not -- that's none of my business, actually," he said. "I just try and stay focused on doing stuff that I love and hoping people that — when I think something is wonderful, I hope people agree with me. I can't guarantee it, but that's the hope of it."

Lorre's latest project is Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage, a spinoff of Young Sheldon that follows the marriage of the show's characters Georgie and Mandy. The series premieres on CBS this fall and will follow the ups and downs of the young couple's relationship.
