BEIRUT:

Two civilians were killed and four others wounded on Monday in Israeli airstrikes on border villages in southern Lebanon, Lebanese military sources told Xinhua.

The military sources, who spoke anonymously, said that the Israeli military launched nine airstrikes on seven towns and villages, and bombed ten border towns and villages with about 50 shells.

The sources added that an Israeli warplane bombed a house in the town of Bint Jbeil in the central part of the border region with two air-to-surface missiles, killing two civilians and wounding a third from the same family.

In a separate incident, an Israeli warplane targeted several homes in the southeast village of Mays al-Jabal with four air-to-surface missiles, wounding three civilians, one of whom was in critical condition, the sources said, noting that all the causalities had been transported the hospital.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah attacked several Israeli sites, including Kiryat Shmona, Ramyah, Baranit, Al-Samaqa, and Jal Al-Alam.

Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border escalated on Oct. 8, 2023, following a barrage of rockets launched by Hezbollah toward Israel in solidarity with Hamas' attack on Israel the day before. Israel then retaliated by firing heavy artillery toward southeastern Lebanon.
