The city's power utility told the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday that it was not conducting load-shedding from 1:30pm to 4:30pm during heatwave. K-Electric (KE) counsel said power outages during this time resulted due to technical faults.
JI Karachi Chief Munnem Zafar and KMC opposition leader Advocate Saifuddin, represented by Advocate Usman Farooq, had filed a case on the matter. On Monday, during the hearing at the Sindh High Court (SHC), KE submitted its reply, refuting the petitioner's claims.
According to KE, 70 per cent of feeders in the city were exempt from load-shedding, with only 30 per cent potentially affected during anti-theft and anti-robbery operations.
"Notably, no load-shedding took place between 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm when temperatures soared to 45 degrees Celsius from June 24 to June 27," KE stated.
A plan to bolster power generation has been forwarded to NEPRA, aiming to eliminate load-shedding for 95 per cent of feeders by 2029 and 2030. KE has also established relief camps across various locations during the heatwave, providing clean water to residents.
The company clarified that technical faults leading to power outages do not constitute load-shedding.
