RAWALPINDI:

A female inmate has died under mysterious circumstances in Central Jail Adiala, Rawalpindi.

The woman had been in jail since June after being arrested by the FIA's Anti-Smuggling Cell. The jail administration stated that the woman was a cancer patient and was transferred to the Rawalpindi District Headquarters Hospital when her condition worsened, where she lost her life due to natural causes.

The woman, whose name was Misbah, was held in the jail for her involvement in cases handled by the FIA Anti-Human Smuggling Cell. The FIA had transferred her to Adiala jail in June.

When contacted, the Superintendent of Adiala jail, Abdul Ghafoor Anjum, stated that the accused was transferred to the jail on judicial remand on June 6. “The accused was a cancer patient. When her condition worsened, she was transferred to the District Headquarters Hospital where she couldn't recover and passed away,” he further elaborated.

Sources from the FIA revealed that the deceased was involved in two different cases and inquiries in which she was accused of extorting money from citizens by deceiving them with promises of employment abroad. The deceased’s body was handed over to her family after a post-mortem at the District Headquarters Hospital.
