The Lahore High Court (LHC) has rejected an intra-court appeal filed against an LHC decision to issue show-cause notices to some police officers in a case pertaining to harassment of an anti-terrorism court (ATC) judge in Sargodha.
A division bench comprising Justice Asjad Javed Ghural and Justice Ali Zia Bajwa on Saturday set aside the appeal filed by Sargodha’s district police officer (DPO) against an earlier order of the LHC penned by its former chief justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan.
Responding to the reports shared with the LHC registrar by Sargodha ATC Judge Muhammad Abbas, Justice Khan on June 13 started contempt proceedings against some officers of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Sargodha’s DPO and the regional officer of the Counter Terrorism Department.
In his order, Justice Khan—who has now been elevated to the Supreme—had noted that Sargodha ATC Judge Muhammad Abbas enjoys a very good reputation and is an honest and hardworking judicial officer of this institution.
“The abovementioned judicial officer has levelled very serious allegations in his above-referred reports regarding the threats and harassment given to the said judicial officer and his family and causing restraint in his judicial work,” he had noted.
