Stephen A. Smith has joined the growing number of prominent figures calling for U.S. President Joe Biden to step down from the 2024 presidential race. During a recent live press conference, President Biden addressed the media for the first time in eight months, prompting Smith to discuss the implications of Biden’s performance and leadership on his show.

In the recent episode of 'The Stephen A. Smith Show,' Smith emphasised that his call for Biden to step down is not rooted in disrespect but in a concern for the future of the Democratic Party. "If you're a liberal, a progressive, a Democrat, you believe there's an abundance of things he has done pretty well," Smith stated, acknowledging Biden’s achievements while highlighting concerns about his cognitive abilities.

Smith pointed out that many Democrats, including 17 publicly, share his view that Biden should make way for Vice President Kamala Harris to run against the likely GOP nominee, Donald Trump. He stressed that his concern is not Biden's age, but his ability to continue effectively in office. "It's about him. It's about that President. It's about this individual that seems to have lost the step."

Reflecting on Biden's press conference and his interactions, Smith remarked, "Watching him walk, talk, speak, articulate himself, watching him drift and fade, mumble and stumble... can you do this for four more years?" He questioned whether Biden’s supporters are considering his ability to serve another term or simply seeking to maintain their political hold.

Smith concluded by urging the Democratic Party to prioritise the American people over internal politics, stressing the importance of addressing these concerns before the 2024 election.
