QUETTA:

Political activists and members of civil society on Friday staged a protest demonstration outside the Quetta Press Club, demanding the arrest of the killers of Muhammad Aslam Khan Umrani, a prominent leader of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F).

The protestors, led by Aziz Umrani, Naeem Umrani and others, criticized the district Osta Muhammad administration for its failure to arrest the culprits. They carried placards and banners expressing their anger and grief.

It may be recalled that Muhammad Aslam Khan Umrani was killed in firing between two tribal groups over an irrigation water dispute.

The violent confrontation occurred within the jurisdiction of Mongoli police station, prompting immediate action by local authorities. The incident began when tensions between the Umrani and Hijwani tribes escalated over access to water for their agricultural lands. The situation quickly spiraled out of control, resulting in an exchange of gunfire that left one person dead and another slightly injured.
