BCCI turns down Gautam Gambhir's proposal to appoint Jonty Rhodes as coach

Gambhir's and Rhodes have previously worked together with the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League

News Desk July 12, 2024

The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) has dismissed a request from its newly appointed head coach, Gautam Gambhir, regarding the appointment of former South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes as the fielding coach.

Despite earlier reports suggesting that Gambhir would have significant influence in appointing his support staff, his first request was denied.

Gambhir's and Rhodes have previously worked together with the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League.

Cricket analysts speculate that the BCCI's decision might reflect a desire to maintain control over key appointments and ensure consistency with their long-term vision for the team.

However, the BCCI's decision to reject his first request has raised questions about the extent of his authority and the board's commitment to supporting his plans.
