Lahore faces urban flooding, streets turn into rivers after torrential rain

Lahore, the capital city of Punjab, witnessed severe flooding in several areas following torrential rains, transforming streets into virtual rivers.

More than 177 feeders operated by Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) tripped due to the heavy rainfall, causing widespread power outages across the city.

The monsoon deluge inundated various parts of the city, with Tajpura recording the highest rainfall at 242 millimeters.

At least 130 millimeters of rain is recorded at Lakshmi Chowk, 132 millimeters in Mughalpura, and 133 millimeters in Gulshan-e-Ravi.

In addition to these areas, Chauk Nakhuda received 122 millimeters, Iqbal Town 128 millimeters, Qartaba Chowk 125 millimeters, Samanabad 135 millimeters, and Airport 71 millimeters of rainfall.

Significant disruptions in power supply were reported from 120 feeders in Lahore, with 15 feeders in the Kasur circle and 10 in the Nankana circle also affected.

The Sheikhupura circle experienced interruptions in power supply from 26 feeders, while the Okara circle reported disruptions from 6 feeders.

Local authorities have initiated emergency drainage operations in response to the heavy rainfall, deploying machinery and personnel to manage water accumulation in affected areas.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed comprehensive measures to mitigate the impact of flooding and ensure swift recovery from the aftermath of the rainfall across all districts of Punjab, focusing particularly on Lahore.
