LAHORE:

The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) sit-in in the federal capital will be held on July 26 in lieu of July 12 as it has rescheduled its protest in reverence of Ashura. This was announced by the party chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman during a news conference on Thursday.

'We have a history of sit-ins and we are not retreating. We have only delayed the sit-in out of respect for Muharram,' said the JI chief, adding, 'We are committed to our cause. The delay is solely due to Ashura.'

He emphasised the necessity of registering their protest while highlighting the party's demand for democratic freedom and relief for the masses. Following Ashura, the JI chief plans to visit major cities to mobilise public support and raise awareness about the critical issues at hand.
