PESHAWAR:

At least four people were killed and 31 others sustained injuries in rain-related accident across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in the past 24 hours.

Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has released a preliminary report on the loss of life and property caused by heavy rains and hailstorms.

Among the deceased are two men, one woman, and a child. The injured include seven men, 10 women, and 14 children.

Five houses suffered damage due to the storm, rain, and hail. Three houses were partially damaged while two were completely destroyed.

The heavy rains led to incidents affecting life and property in Bannu, Battagram, and North Waziristan districts of the province.

PDMA, along with district administration and relief teams, is actively involved in relief operations in the affected districts.

It has instructed the district administrations of the affected areas to promptly provide financial aid to the victims.

Relevant agencies, and all district administrations are closely monitoring and maintaining regular communication regarding the situation.

PDMA’s Emergency Operation Center is fully operational, and the public can contact 1700 to report any emergencies

It may be mentioned here that PDMA last month unveiled the Monsoon Contingency Plan 2024, a comprehensive strategy aimed at minimizing disaster risks and facilitating a coordinated and timely response.

It has actively engaged district administration, provincial and federal line departments, and humanitarian partners in developing this plan, incorporating valuable lessons learned from previous incidents. The primary objective is to mitigate the impact of disasters and safeguard the lives and livelihoods of the people residing in the province.
