Bollywood’s perennial bachelor at 58, Salman Khan, has always been a romantic figure, both on-screen and off. His charisma has endeared him to millions, but one love story stands out in Bollywood lore: his unfulfilled love for Juhi Chawla.

According to Times of India, in an interview from years ago, Salman opened up about his admiration for the Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani actor’s innocence and grace. It was the early ‘90s, and both stars were still making their names in the industry. With Salman’s intense demeanour and Juhi’s charming girl-next-door image, they seemed destined to go far.

A grainy video, recently resurfacing on social media, shows a young Salman Khan speaking fondly of Juhi. “She’s a very sweet, adorable girl,” he says, his eyes shining with sincerity. “I asked her father if he’d let her marry me, but he refused.” Perhaps it was Salman’s budding career, or perhaps he sensed that their futures lay on different paths. Whatever the reason, Juhi’s father quashed the potential romance. When asked why he thought he was rejected, the Dabangg actor humorously replied, “Maybe I don’t fit the bill, I guess… I don’t know what he wants.”

As per Times of India, Juhi recently confirmed the story. “Salman approached me,” she acknowledged, “but I was focused on my career. We didn’t know each other well back then. He wasn’t the megastar he is today.” Juhi’s dedication to her acting career took precedence, leading her to choose professional aspirations over romance. The two have only worked together in one film over the span of their illustrious careers. Salman had a special appearance in the 1997 film, Deewana Mastana, in which Juhi starred opposite Anil Kapoor and Govinda.
