Disney has revealed plans to revisit the adventures of Woody and Buzz in Toy Story 5. CEO Bob Iger confirmed that Pixar is working on a new Toy Story sequel, which is set to be released in 2026.

This will be the sixth feature-length Toy Story film, following 2022's Lightyear and 2019's Toy Story 4.

Since its debut in 1995, the Pixar series has generated over $3.3 billion, and Toy Story 5 aims to continue this success and become another box office triumph for Disney.

When will Toy Story 5 be released?

Toy Story 5 is set to hit theaters worldwide on June 19, 2026.The studio confirmed that the sequel will have a summer release, similar to the previous films in the franchise.

Who is on the Toy Story 5 cast?

In June 2023, Pixar chief Pete Docter confirmed that Toy Story 5 would once again center on the adventures of Woody and Buzz.

Toy Story wouldn't be the same without the iconic voice performances of Tom Hanks as Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear. So, will they reprise their roles for Toy Story 5?

After the announcement of Toy Story 5, Home Improvement star Tim Allen, who wasn't part of the Lightyear spinoff, confirmed he would return as Buzz. He tweeted: "See ya soon Woody... off we go to a number 5! To infinity and beyond!"

In 2019, Hanks appeared uncertain when speaking to Ellen DeGeneres, saying,"We’re saying goodbye to Woody and Buzz and Bonnie’s room and Andy and everybody," before adding: “Is it over? I don’t know. It’ll live forever."

This suggests that Tony Hale as Forky, Annie Potts as Bo Peep, Joan Cusack as Jessie, Wallace Shawn as Rex, John Ratzenberger as Hamm, and Blake Clark as Slinky Dog might also make a return.

Unfortunately, one cast member who won't be returning is Don Rickles, who passed away in 2017 and voiced Mr. Potato Head.

What is Toy Story 5 about?

Although specifics about the plot of Toy Story 5 remain unknown, it's evident that Woody and Buzz will come together once more for a new adventure.Discussing the fifth film, Pixar's Pete Docter told The Wrap, “I think it’ll be surprising. It’s got some really cool stuff that you haven’t seen before.”

The conclusion of Toy Story 4 was poignant, showing Woody and Bo Peep departing from Bonnie's toys to join Giggle McDimples, Duke Caboom, Bunny, and Ducky as "lost toys" at the fairground.

They chose to remain with the traveling carnival since Bonnie no longer required Woody's presence. Recording the scene was emotional for the cast, as it felt like a potential conclusion to the series. Hanks mentioned he had to face away from the crew in the recording booth to avoid getting emotional.

The other toys belonging to Bonnie — including Buzz, Jessie, Forky, Bullseye, Slinky, Rex, the Potato Heads, Trixie, Dolly, and Buttercup — went back to her family's RV to remain her playmates, as she still depended on them.

As we look forward, even though the official plot details of Toy Story 5 remain under wraps, the stars haven't hesitated to propose their own concepts. Alongside confirming Disney's involvement of one of the original Toy Story franchise writers for the script, Allen discussed his ideas for a possible new Woody and Buzz journey that would bring together all the toys with their cherished owner, Andy.

In an interview with The Movie Dweeb while promoting season two of The Santa Clauses, Allen suggested, "I don’t know if this is where the story is going, but what if the whole story was through Andy as an adult? [He] has children, and they just happen to be online, and the kid goes, ‘Have you ever seen this toy?’ and Andy sees that Buzz has got a hand missing, and they’re selling these vintage toys. And Andy goes and gathers all the toys up.”

"He has to go out and find each one of them and put them back together, bring them back to his house, and start the whole thing over again with his son. And I said, ‘What a wonderful idea, it’s all through Andy’s eyes because we [the toys] made his life, and now he’s returning that favor.”

Only time will reveal if this will indeed be the storyline for Toy Story 5.
