On Wednesday, speculation arose that Kanye West might be retiring from the music industry.

The influential rapper, who reshaped hip-hop in the 2000s and 2010s, has seen his legacy tainted by allegations of antisemitism and his outspoken support for controversial former US President Donald Trump.

West, 47, is anticipated to release "Vultures 2," the second of three planned albums with Ty Dolla Sign, later this year.

A recently published text conversation, allegedly between Kanye West and rapper Rich The Kid, hints that West might be ready to end his 20-year music career.

The news of his potential retirement sparked a mixed reaction on social media, with dedicated fans encouraging him to keep going, while others welcomed the idea of his withdrawal.

One follower, clearly dissatisfied with West's recent work, took to X, formerly Twitter, and commented, “At least he won’t ruin his discog any more.”

A second added, “Oh thank God.”

While a third snapped, “Good, he’s washed and just ruining his legacy.”

A fourth commented, “Leaving his legacy off with vultures 1 is insane.”

The message from someone thought to be Kanye West said, “'I'm retiring from professional music. Not sure what else to do.”

Rich The Kid attempted to persuade the father-of-four to rethink his choice, mentioning the recent success of his Vultures 1 album with Ty Dolla Sign.
