Illegal and unregistered medicines worth Rs15 million have been seized in a joint raid by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) State Bank Circle and the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP).
According to the FIA spokesperson, the raid took place in Gulshan-e-Roomi within the jurisdiction of Malir Cantonment.
The accused, identified as Anoop Kumar, was found storing and selling unregistered medicines from various international pharmaceutical companies, including those based in the US.
Anoop Kumar was allegedly using a Facebook page named 'Vitamindec' to market these medicines online. Imported cosmetics, shampoos, and nutritional products from various foreign brands were also recovered during the raid.
The seized medicines are mainly used in the treatment of serious medical conditions such as heart diseases, cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and others. The total value of the drugs exceeds Rs15 million. Anoop Kumar failed to produce valid documents pertaining to the imported medicines and other products.
According to investigators, Anoop Kumar was working under the supervision of Deepak Kumar, who is reported to be based in the UAE.
A case was registered under the Drug Act 1976 and the Pakistan Customs Act 1969 against both Anoop Kumar, son of Lal Chand, and Deepak Kumar, son of Karta Ram. More raids are underway to arrest other suspects involved in the illegal business.
