Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a Rs50 billion relief package for domestic electricity consumers using up to 200 units per month.

Addressing a ceremony on energy sector reforms in Islamabad, the prime minister stated that the subsidy will benefit 25 million consumers, representing 94 per cent of total domestic users, over the three months of July, August, and September.

PM Shehbaz detailed that under the package, the cost of electricity will range from Rs4 to Rs7 per unit. Consumers of K-Electric will also qualify for this subsidy. The funds for this initiative will be sourced from the development budget, he added.

The premier explained that the decision aims to alleviate the burden on the common man amidst rising electricity prices. He noted that the summer months are particularly challenging for households, but as temperatures drop from October onwards, electricity consumption typically decreases.

The prime minister assured that the coalition government is committed to overcoming all challenges together. Emphasising the importance of fighting corruption, he stated that it is the only way to address Pakistan's economic difficulties effectively.
