Progressive reps back Biden amid calls to drop election bid
Progressive Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), and Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) have publicly reaffirmed their support for President Biden amidst calls from some Democratic colleagues for him to withdraw from the 2024 reelection race.
In a display of solidarity, Ocasio-Cortez, whose district covers parts of Queens and the Bronx, emphasized her endorsement of Biden following extensive conversations with him. She underscored Biden's determination to continue in the race, stating firmly, "Joe Biden is our nominee. He is not leaving this race. He is in this race, and I support him."
Omar echoed Ocasio-Cortez's sentiments, observing a broad consensus among Democrats backing Biden's candidacy. Meanwhile, Pressley underscored the importance of party unity, asserting, "Joe Biden is the nominee," in response to recent challenges facing the administration.
Their statements come amidst criticism of Biden's recent debate performance and reflect a commitment to supporting his leadership amid internal party discussions about the upcoming election cycle.
