Carlos Alcaraz, the rising star of tennis, finds himself at a crossroads of passions as he prepares for his Wimbledon quarterfinal on Tuesday.

His concern? The timing may coincide with Spain's semi final clash against France at soccer's European Championship.

“Hopefully on Tuesday we are not going to play at the same time,” Alcaraz expressed, hoping to catch a glimpse of the football match.

The overlap of major sports events is not uncommon, and Wimbledon often coincides with significant football tournaments like the World Cup or the Euros.

This scheduling challenge affects players and fans alike, drawing their attention between national pride and individual performance on the court.

Even Novak Djokovic experienced a distracted audience during his third-round match at Wimbledon, as it coincided with England's quarterfinal match against Switzerland at Euro 2024.

The excitement from the crowd was palpable when England won a penalty shootout, a moment so loud that it caused a brief interruption in the tennis match.

Alcaraz, too, has made adjustments to his Wimbledon schedule due to the Euro 2024.

His post-match duties were delayed as he rushed to check the score of Spain's quarterfinal game against Germany, demonstrating the deep connection sports stars have with their national teams.

As Wimbledon continues, Alcaraz remains focused on his game while also supporting his friends on the Spanish football team, including striker Alvaro Morata.

“Right now it’s time to support them, as I know they support me when I’m playing matches,” Alcaraz stated, highlighting the camaraderie that transcends sports.

Wimbledon's strict policy of showing only tennis on its screens, despite the overlap, underscores the singular focus of the historic tournament, ensuring that fans who come to the grounds are there for one reason alone—to watch world-class tennis.
