Balakot hydropower project advances with Chinese aid

PESHAWAR:

The Balakot Hydropower Project in the Mansehra district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is rapidly taking shape with the cooperation of Chinese engineers.

Anticipated to be the region's largest hydropower initiative, generating 300 MW, the project is swiftly advancing thanks to cooperative efforts.

Secretary Energy and Power Nisar Ahmad Khan highlighted that the project, financed with support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), promises substantial economic benefits.

He projected an annual revenue of Rs15 billion for the province and the creation of approximately 1400 job opportunities.

During an urgent visit to the project site, Secretary Nisar Ahmad Khan engaged with the teams from Gazoba China, the Chinese construction company, and Dolsar, the Turkish consultant firm.

The purpose was to assess progress firsthand. Project Director Aziz Raza, along with Deputy Director Engineer Mohammad Zubair Khan and other officials, participated in the meeting.

Discussions centered on various aspects of the project, including colony design, civil works, and tunnel construction.

Secretary Nisar Ahmad Khan urged contractors, consultants, and project directors to expedite efforts at the dam site and resume stalled work promptly.

Inspecting a newly completed tunnel, Secretary Nisar Ahmad Khan expressed confidence that the Balakot Hydropower Project would significantly bolster the province's economic stability and prosperity.
