Headmaster accused of raping child gets bail

Family, community of the victim stage protest for the arrest of culprit

KARACHI:

A school’s headmaster allegedly raped a 10-year-old female student in the Moach Goth area of Karachi in the limits of Mochko police station.

Residents and the family of the girl from Moach Goth staged a protest on the Northern Bypass and Hub River Road to demand the arrest of the nominated suspect.

The protest caused traffic jams on both tracks, with long lines of vehicles forming. According to traffic police, heavy traffic was lined up on Northern Bypass and Hub River Road, while smaller vehicles were diverted from Dabba Mor to Pulitya 24 Market and through inner areas.

During the protest, the family and local residents demanded the arrest of the school headmaster, Hanif. Mochko SHO Shahid Khan, stated that the alleged incident of rape occurred on June 21, and the girl’s mother filed a case against the headmaster on June 27 at Mochko Police Station.

The SHO said that the headmaster obtained pre-arrest bail the following day. The police have conducted a medical examination of the girl, and the situation will become clearer once the report is available. According to police officials, a case has been registered at Mochko Police Station following a complaint from the victim’s father.

The first information report (FIR) filed by the mother states that the headmaster tutors their three daughters. On June 21, the headmaster called, insisting that the daughters visit him to receive Eidi. Despite initial refusal, the mother eventually sent her daughters due to his persistence.

Upon returning home, the victim informed her mother that the headmaster had taken her to another room and raped her. She also revealed that the headmaster threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the incident.

The girl underwent a medical examination, and the police are currently awaiting the results. Following the incident, the victim’s parents and local residents protested on Hub River Road, demanding the suspect’s arrest. The protest led to significant traffic disruptions in the area.

Last month, the investigation led to the grisly discovery of the bodies of a woman and her two children from a drain in Mauripur.

The police revealed post-mortem examinations that confirmed that the children were subjected to rape by their tormentor who then dumped the bodies in the drain.
