These two go way back. Drake's approval rating may not be high at the moment, but his longstanding friendship with NBA star Kevin Durant remains strong.
On July 1, Drake and Durant celebrated Canada Day together at Drake's Toronto mansion, highlighting their enduring bond amidst Drake's recent rap feuds.
Drake has faced a challenging time recently, losing to Kendrick Lamar in their ongoing battle and seeing several rappers and athletes side with Lamar.
However, Durant has consistently supported Drake, a relationship that dates back over a decade.
The Phoenix Suns star has remained loyal, even posting a screenshot of Drake's song "No Friends In the Industry" on his Instagram Story during the height of the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar feud.
Drake was active on social media throughout the holiday, sharing a video message and several photos of himself smoking hookah.
Later in the day, he posted a photo on his Instagram Story featuring himself and Durant relaxing in his backyard.
Durant had a drink in front of him while Drake enjoyed his hookah. Despite the recent controversies, Durant's support for Drake has never wavered.
Their friendship traces back to 2012 when Drake referenced Durant in his verse for the single "Pop That."
Durant was equally humbled by the shout-outs, calling Drake his favorite rapper and expressing his gratitude during a Sneaker Reporter interview.
"When your favorite rapper puts your name in a song," Durant explained, "it makes you feel like you've made it, no matter what you've done."
Durant's involvement in Drake's career deepened when he was credited as an A&R on Drake's 2023 album "For All the Dogs."
Durant explained that his role was to facilitate conversation and be there for Drake whenever needed. "And he just gave me that title," Durant said.
Interestingly, Durant's public support for Drake contrasts with the recent show of support for Kendrick Lamar by other NBA stars.
LeBron James, DeMar DeRozan, James Harden, Russell Westbrook, and Coby White were all spotted at Lamar's "Pop Out and Show" concert in Los Angeles in June, with DeRozan and Westbrook even joining Lamar on stage.
The Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar feud, which began in the spring, has been one of the biggest storylines in the music industry this year.
While the beef seemed to have cooled down in recent weeks, Lamar's concert reignited chatter about the two rappers, with NBA players getting involved by attending the show.
