‘Lack of coordination, team spirit let Pak down’

Wahab Riaz report points out critical deficiencies in strategy and execution

The Pakistan Cricket Team's disappointing performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup was attributed to a lack of coordination and team spirit, as detailed in a report by Senior Manager Wahab Riaz to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

This revelation came as part of an assessment submitted to the PCB, according to a local media report. The report, which was addressed to PCB Director Usman Wahla and included insights from team manager Mansoor Rana, highlighted several factors behind the team’s early exit from the tournament.

Riaz's analysis pointed out that critical deficiencies in both strategy and execution were evident on the field.

"Team Pakistan did not exhibit the necessary level of skilled cricket expected at such a prestigious event," Wahab noted.

He emphasized that the players' lack of coordination severely hampered their ability to effectively implement game plans.

Wahab's report offered several recommendations to enhance Pakistan’s future cricketing prospects. These included organizing extensive training camps, encouraging greater participation in domestic cricket, focusing on player fitness, and arranging more international tours to help players adapt to different playing conditions. The PCB is currently reviewing Wahab's report.

Pakistan’s Imran, Irfan in KL for tape-ball event

National cricket stars Mohammad Irfan and Imran Nazir on Thursday arrived in Kuala Lumpur to participate in the three-day "Meri Cricket Hamari Jeet" tape ball tournament starting June 28 at Club Aman.

The event will feature eight teams, including Buner Bahadur, Karachi Heroes, and Swat Cheetahs, vying for top honors. The tournament is open to the Pakistani community in Malaysia, with free registration available through local Pakistani restaurants and establishments.

The event will conclude on June 30 with cultural performances by renowned Pakistani artists, including Jibran Raheel and Sophia Kaif.
