LHC directs govt to stop drone attacks inside Pak

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday has directed the government to stop drone attacks inside Pakistan.

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday has directed the government to stop drone attacks inside Pakistan.

The court has disposed of the petition in this regard. The petition was filed by lawyer Sardar Zaheer Khan.

It requested the court to ask the federal government for a comprehensive report on any agreement or treaty with the US and Blackwater on drone attacks.

The petitioner maintained that the government should also provide details of the number of drone attacks, people killed and compensation provided to the victims.

Sultan Ahmed | 14 years ago | Reply As a print and electronic media is witness government of Pakistan repeatedly requested to the united states that drone attack be stopped forthwith but it is till continuing. many times America refused to stop the attacks. what is the reason behind it no one know but the fact is that there is some thing behind it. Innocent people including women and children are being died, who is responsible for that,government has been crying but their efforts remained fruitless. Some high ups are expressing that there is secret agreement between the states and present executive,may be may not. now is the court order now will have to explain the real condition circumstances must be surface the reality so that nation may come to the conclusion that what is the reality what our innocent people are being targeting.

Riaz | 14 years ago | Reply We are waiting for a judgment against Taliban, who have killed and wounded about 30,000 innocent Pakistani Muslims.Drones are killing these terrorists.These are precision guided missile and the killing of innocent people is negligible.The numbers are exaggerated.Niazi can not name even one innocent person killed.

Jawad Khan Niazi | 14 years ago | Reply @Yasir It's known that innocents have been killed in these strikes, I find it heartless to ignore the deaths of those innocent people and call it collateral damage in the "War against terror". Even if these strikes have been "instrumental" in hunting down down terrorists - how has it helped us against terror? Certainly, extremism has not abated. If such a petition leads to increasing the visibility of the drone war that's being fought, how is it in any way against public interest?? And yes, if these attacks lead to killing of innocent people and an increase in the number of enemies of the state then it is a threat to our national security.

Yasir Qadeer | 14 years ago | Reply I don’t think drones are a threat to our national security. They have been instrumental in hunting down terrorists rather. Sometimes I believe that these decisions are taken against public will.
