Jamat-e-Islami Karachi Chief Munem Zafar, and City Council Deputy Parliamentary Leader Saifuddin Advocate, lodged a petition in the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday, challenging the issue of load shedding in Karachi.
Following the filing of the petition, Munem Zafar addressed a press conference, stating that their party has named the power ministry, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), and K-Electric as respondents in the case.
He said that the petition seeks a court order restraining KE from conducting load shedding during heatwave conditions in the city.
Zafar criticised KE, alleging that despite their claims that 71 per-cent of feeders are free from load shedding, the actual situation on the ground differs. He accused KE of frequently attributing power outages to technical faults, squarely placing the blame on the company itself to resolve these issues.
He condemned the hardship faced by the citizens as some of them endure up to 18 hours of load shedding in certain areas.
Asserting their commitment to fight for the rights of Karachi residents, Zafar declared that his party will utilize all available means to address the grievances.
He announced plans for over 100 protests across outside the officer in KE.
