NA approves 121 budget demands worth Rs8.7tr

ISLAMABAD:

The National Assembly began the process of passing the federal budget for the next fiscal year 2024-25, approving 121 demands for grants relating to various ministries, divisions, and departments, worth Rs8,780 billion.

The house rejected the 216 cut motions of the opposition with a majority vote. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb would move the demands for grants pertaining to four ministries in the next session on Thursday (today) for approval.

Later, the National Assembly passed 18 demands for grants, moved by Aurangzeb, related to various other ministries, divisions, and departments, after rejecting all the 216 cut motions proposed by the opposition parties pertaining to three ministries and divisions.

The house passed 12 demands of grants worth more than Rs41.7 billion after rejecting the opposition’s 60 cut motions pertaining to the cabinet, establishment, and national security divisions.

Two demands for grants worth more than Rs701 billion were approved after 97 cut motions on energy division were rejected.
