Senator Faisal Vawda on Wednesday tendered “unconditional and sincere apology” to the Supreme Court in a contempt case and requested the apex court to withdraw the show-cause notices issued to him.
Vawda submitted a second reply in the Supreme Court in which he stated that he had full respect for the judiciary. He said that he had met with religious scholars who suggested to him that he should stand with justice even if it was against his kith and kin.
“In order to show his utmost respect as per the teaching of Islam for the Honourable Court the respondent sincerely apologizes unconditionally,” Vawda said. He added that he “submits himself” before the court and regretted any harm that may have been caused by his May 18 press conference.
Vawda requested the court to withdraw the show-cause notices issued to him. He added that he was willing to take any further steps “for the satisfaction of this Hon’ble Court that he never intended to impugn its dignity or independence”.
On June 5, the Supreme Court had given Vawda another chance to file an additional reply to the show cause notice. A three-member bench led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa is scheduled to hear the contempt of court case against Senator Faisal Vawda on June 28.
