Afghanistan's fast bowler Naveenul Haq took to Instagram to share a funny meme about his teammate Gulbadin Naib’s questionable injury during the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 match against Bangladesh.
The meme, inspired by a scene from the popular Bollywood movie "Welcome," humorously suggests that Naib’s leg injury might have been exaggerated, as he was seen running normally later on.
In the match, Gulbadin Naib appeared to injure his hamstring and fell to the ground during Bangladesh's innings. This came after Afghanistan’s head coach, Jonathan Trott, made a gesture from the sidelines, hinting at a tactical move to delay the game. The incident happened when rain was falling and Afghanistan was narrowly leading by two runs under the DLS system.
Naveen's post included a clip from "Welcome," where a character fakes a leg injury and later runs at full speed. Naveen captioned it, "Sorry @gulbadin.naib but had to post this."
Despite the questionable tactic, Afghanistan went on to win the match, bowling out Bangladesh for just 105 runs and securing their place in the semi-finals. Naib’s actions, while controversial, did not decide the outcome of the game, but they certainly caught the attention of fans and media alike.
The T20 World Cup 2024 is nearing its end, with only four teams remaining. The semi-finals are set to take place on June 27 in the West Indies, with Afghanistan among the teams still in contention for the title. The tournament, which began with 20 teams, has now entered its most exciting phase as the remaining teams battle for a spot in the final.
